“Mia and Emma” is a collection of stories of Mia who is the older sister, and Emma who is the younger.
Mia is quiet and thoughtful, and prefers dresses with flowers on them, and anything and everything sparkly. While Emma is mom and dad’s biggest headache. Emma has the weirdest ideas and the most bizarre thoughts; you can never guess what Emma is up to next! Just like that, two very different sisters.
They fight, make up, go on adventures together, and do silly things that give mum headaches. But no matter what, Mia and Emma remain each other’s forever best friend.
Mum and dad and Emma and I are going for a walk after dinner.
We went to our local supermarket, mum said I can walk around by myself if I take Emma with me.
“I’m going to look for handkerchiefs, I need them for kindergarten.” I tell Emma.
She stares at me blankly, so I stare back at her too.
“Well go on then, I haven’t got ALL DAY.” Emma says.
So, I went about around the store while Emma followed quietly behind me.
I spot a big bin where all the handkerchiefs are stored.
“I can’t decide if I want this one with a kitty or this other one with a bow” I say to myself.
I was still choosing between the two handkerchiefs when Emma miraculously disappeared!
I walk around the store looking for Emma.
“There you are!” I say, after spotting Emma standing alone in the middle of another aisle.
“I’m getting this.” Emma says to me. wrapped tightly in her arms is a water bottle larger than her head.
I say to her “You have to ask mum first.”
She rolled her eyes a few times to the right, then a few times to the left, and starts to walk around again.
“Wait for me!” I chase behind her.
She finally stops walking after a few laps around the store.
It looks like she has been looking for mum all this time.
“I’m getting this water bottle.” she tells mum. But mum says no.
Tears begin to fill up Emma’s eyes and she hugs the bottle even tighter. When mum says to her no once more, she thumps down on the ground and kick and cry and roll and scream. But mum still says no to the water bottle.
So, Emma stands up again and jump and jump and jump until she become so tired, she falls to the floor again. Although her crying never stopped.
Mum finally gives up and got her that big water bottle, and my handkerchief with a bow on it, of course.
Emma came home from school rather grumpy the next day.
She went straight into the kitchen, pulled a stool, stood tip toe on the stool, and pushed her big water bottle all the way to the very back of the cupboard. she pouted her lips as she walks past me and into her room.
“I wonder what’s wrong with her.” I ask mum curiously.
mum laughed, and that made me even more curious.
“Emma’s teacher said her big water bottle was way too heavy, and it fell on her face when she tried drinking from it!”
I can’t help but giggle a little too.
I went into her room only to find her snuggled up in her bed drinking orange juice out of her old baby bottle.
“I’m never, ever, not ever bringing that water to kindergarten ever again!” Emma said.
Oh Emma.
